Jaguar Spark Plug Wires

I see thin wispy smoke coming from a round thing with Spark plug Wires coming out of it, why?

1985 Jaguar XJ6 4.2
Passenger side of Engine, near the Front of it (Towards headlights)
Recessed from that bank and right on top, i see a round cylinder.. Cylindrical like a Starter. There is ONE Spark Plug-looking Wire coming out of it.

I see think wispy smoke coming from it.. i don’t necessarily feel heat.

What is going on?

(Car runs as good as it can for having year-old Gas in there… i’m still putting in Fresh Gas and B-12 ChemTool, Fuel Pump is 100% New as of yesterday… and i’m charging the Battery Water back into Electrolyte over a day or two, maybe more, as per suggested…)

That’s your ignition coil, if its emitting smoke then its either overheating or is burning off corrosion, either one could be another reason your car isn’t running great. The coil stores power from the battery and sends it to the distributor cap to be dispensed by the rotor button to the spark plugs. I would change it the plugs, cap, and rotor, then inspect the wire connections for corrosion or white marks from melting on the rubber insulator along the wire bodies. And water doesn’t turn into electrolytes, the water in the battery just dilutes the sulfuric acid. If you dumped the battery, replace it, the plates inside the battery are never meant to be in solely water.
